What do they do?
SENG serves a dual purpose:

For Athletes, Teams, and Coaches: SENG connects individuals and groups with qualified sports nutrition practitioners to optimize performance through tailored nutritional strategies. By collaborating with SENG members, athletes can enhance their training outcomes, improve recovery times, and achieve their performance goals.

For Members: SENG fosters a supportive network for sports nutrition practitioners, offering opportunities for professional development and collaboration. Members benefit from access to continuous professional development (CPD) lectures, monthly research newsletters, and eligibility to apply for conference bursaries. Additionally, SENG keeps its members informed about the latest job opportunities in the field of sports nutrition within Ireland.

Where can you find them?
SENG operates primarily through its online platform, providing a comprehensive
directory of qualified practitioners accessible to athletes, teams, and coaches. You can access the link for the members directory here ( https://www.seng.ie/member-profiles ). This directory allows users tosearch for professionals based on location, ensuring easy access to expert nutritional support tailored to their specific needs. Whether you're an individual athlete seeking personalised guidance or a team looking to enhance collective performance, SENG's network is readily available to assist.

What Does a Performance Nutritionist or Sports Dietitian Do?
Performance Nutritionists and Sports Dietitians specialise in optimising athletic performance through tailored nutritional strategies. They collaborate closely with athletes to assess dietary habits, body composition and specific sport-related nutritional needs. By developing personalised nutrition plans,
these professionals can ensure athletes are adequately fuelled for training and competition, support efficient recovery and reduce injury risk. Their expertise extends to educating athletes on making informed food choices and providing impartial advice on the use of sports supplements. This comprehensive approach not only enhances performance but also promotes overall health and well-being.

Why should a team or coach choose a qualified practitioner?

Engaging with a qualified sports nutrition practitioner offers numerous advantages:

Expertise and Credibility: SENG members possess recognized qualifications and are registered with professional bodies such as the SENR and INDI. This ensures they have the necessary knowledge and skills to provide evidence-based nutritional advice.

Professional Standards: Affiliation with SENG and INDI requires adherence to a strict code of conduct and maintenance of professional indemnity insurance, offering peace of mind regarding the quality and accountability of the services provided.

Tailored Nutritional Strategies: Qualified practitioners can develop personalized nutrition plans that align with the specific goals, training regimens and physiological needs of athletes, leading to optimised performance outcomes.

Enhanced Performance and Recovery: Proper nutrition is pivotal in improving athletic performance, accelerating recovery, and reducing injury risk. Working with a qualified practitioner ensures that dietary interventions are both effective and safe.

Incorporating a qualified sports nutrition professional into a team's support system is a
strategic investment in the health and success of athletes, providing them with the nutritional foundation necessary to excel in their respective sports.
